The Details

In the 1930s, The United States, worn down by The Depression and its involvement in The Great War, took a very isolationist position regarding world affairs.  Yet, when Germany, Italy, and Japan challenged the world order, The Americans answered the call.  The victory for the Allies was led by the daring American GIs with their John Wayne bravado and determined spirit.

At the War’s conclusion, The United States was the hero who could do no wrong, the new shining example for Europe to follow. While Italy, France, and Britain were the long-standing purveyors of style and design, The American spirit offered a new direction that would point to the future for inspiration.  The technology of jet airplanes, unlimited power, and a dramatic aesthetic informed the design language. The tough images of Marlon Brando and James Dean fed the American “Badass” persona.  And so, the stage was set for America to chart the post-war course of automotive design.

Join us as World Renound Automotive photogropher, Michael Furman, takes us on a trip back to the 1950's, showcasing the monumental changes in styling that took place in the post-war era.
